Twenty-four students from Chu Hai College of Higher Education received the “Outstanding Performance Scholarship” and the “Best Progress Award” for the 2011/12 academic year receiving a total amount of $820,000. These two scholarships were established under the Self-financing Post-secondary Scholarship Scheme (SPSS) of the Self-financing Post-secondary Education Fund.

To promote the development of the self-financing post-secondary sector, the Self-financing Post-secondary Scholarship Scheme Fund offers scholarships and awards to students pursuing full-time, locally-accredited, self-financed sub-degrees or bachelor degrees (including top-up degree) programmes at non-profit-making educational institutions.

The Outstanding Performance Scholarship aims to recognise the performance of outstanding students. For nomination, students should have the following qualities: a high standard of academic performance, evidence of leadership and good communication skills, and a record of valuable contribution to the institution or community. For bachelor degree students, non-local and local students can receive a scholarship of $80,000 and $40,000 respectively. The scholarship is $30,000 for sub-degree students.

The Best Progress Award aims to encourage and recognise students who have made significant progress and improvement. Students should demonstrate that they are striving to make great improvements by the time they complete their studies. The award is set at $10,000 for a bachelor degree or sub‐degree student, irrespective of whether they are local or non‐local students.
